Coker's Corner

Welcome

December 2nd, 2010

Welcome to Coker’s Corner. Okay, the name is rather weak sauce, but I hope the blogs to be rather colorful and fun; always fun and most often tongue in cheek. My main objective is to inform and laughing along the way makes the information more palatable and you may even remember a thing or two!

I have split this blog into two sections: A Bit About Wine With a Few Suggestions and Another Rant. I have been tasting wine since my early college days; alright in college I was swilling Concha y Toro magnums at parties with my writing professors. In the early 90s, Carnegie Mellon University was one of the few undergraduate programs in the nation to offer a degree in creative writing. The experience was exhilarating and the parties legendary. By the end of the decade/century I was the director of wine at Corks Restaurant piecing together over a 300 bottle all American wine list. The first part of this blog, A Bit About Wine and a Few Suggestions will chronicle my weekly tastings; I will tell you about the very best wines that I have tasted each week with tasting notes and any useful anecdotes. You can also follow my weekly Wednesday tastings on Twitter @cwcsomm .

The second part of this blog, Another Rant, is more of a DIY for my own sanity. It is always intended for laughter, prone to hyperbole and may even give you a bit of insight into my frenetic, fun and bizarre world. Enter at your own risk.

Thank You!

Another Rant

I recently was a judge at the Maryland Governor’s Dup for Wine. I am very honored to be asked

and overjoyed to have the opportunity to evaluate how far Maryland has come in the wine world.

There are a few wineries who are leading the now 50 strong pack but it is only time before

they all catch up and when that happens Marylanders will be standing in front of the Maryland

wine shelves at their local wine shops in an indecisive quandary over what wine to drink!

It’s coming, I promise!
